Taking Time to Refresh & Get Energized

Business Points of Performance [BiZPoP #7]: Taking Time to Refresh and Get Energized

Video Length:  7:25

Business owners are some of the most driven people I’ve ever met. They work insanely long hours and usually 6 or 7 days a week. Recognition and revenue are usually the rewards but they are not assured rewards to be counted on.

What can be counted on is overwhelm and fatigue if proper care is not taken to level out energies put into the business versus energies to have fun and, well, play.

I’ve worked hard since I was 22 and only took extended time off when I had each of my 3 children. I don’t mind working and some people do think that I’m driven. I’m not so sure about that but I would readily admit that I am determined and will do what it takes to get to achieve my goal.

Recently, however, I realized that I was working incredibly hard to discover and put in motion some changes in my business in order to move it in a new direction. And with this realization I simultaneously realized I was tired. Even more the case, I had stopped doing anything which helped to reset my energy levels. I wasn’t gardening, reading, going to museums, etc. All had been put on that proverbial ‘back burner’ for some later time.

That made me pull up short. Hmm…

Here’s the thing then …

When we find ourselves in a place where we know that it’s time for replenishment, we will too frequently ignore it. We must permit ourselves the freedom from our own conscience and need to drive forward at an unhealthy pace. Tell yourself instead that it is okay to take time to refuel with friends and with activities that support your soul and cause joy. A change of pace. A change of scenery. To do so will allow you to again feel the energy and determination to attack what is on your desk.
